Will celebrate completion of affordable multifamily project, encourage local businesses to apply for economic recovery funds
AUSTIN - Tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 18, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will visit both Jefferson and Hardin counties. News media is invited to attend both events to spread the word about the success of recovery funds in restoring local housing and the new economic recovery program, Texas Back in Business, now taking applications for small business owners who experienced economic and/or physical damage as a result of Hurricane Harvey.
At 10 a.m. in Beaumont, Cmr. Bush will celebrate the completion of the historic Senior Citizens Y-House Apartments, an affordable multifamily housing complex damaged in Hurricane Harvey and repaired using Texas General Land Office (GLO) recovery funds. Located in the historic YMCA building, the development dedicated 100% of its 40 units to low- to moderate-income elderly residents, and provides ADA-accessible accommodations, an open-air courtyard and an on-site food pantry.
At 1 p.m. in Kountze, Commissioner Bush will kickoff a presentation on the Texas Back in Business program, a new federally-funded program awarding $50,000 up to $250,000 in disaster relief for qualified Texas small businesses damaged by Hurricane Harvey. 10 a.m. - Visit multifamily rental project repaired by the GLO recovery assistance program 1 p.m. - Texas Back in Business presentation
